On Christmas in Binghamton

I've been home for what feels like many weeks now. I have a routine, not at all strenuous, so it works for me, and it’s hard for me to remember what I did before. I'm sure it will all come back very quickly when I get back to Chicago. In fact, I've been kind of excited, or maybe anxious, to go back and try to do better. I'm also looking forward to more winter. I like the cold, especially when I get to wear all my warm sweaters and cuddle in bed, it just makes it all the better when it’s really cold out.

So I have had a lot of fun here in Binghamton, lots of coffee, lots of cookies, baking, reading, sleeping, friends, family, all good things. It has been very relaxing and refreshing. I'm really hoping the feeling lasts because it is going to be a long quarter.

I don’t really know what else to say, this post is taking me a long time to write and I think my thoughts are becoming disjointed. Speaking of disjointed, I wanted to post about Calvin. We met him tonight at they cyber cafe and it was really crazy. He apparently went to the largest private school...in Arkansas. He told me "did you know that rights don’t count in America?" I really flipped out over that one. I was sick of him saying that men who thought women weren’t good at science and should have kids and worship their husbands actually made better husbands because they were less likely to cheat or something. I remember at one point he asked Sara "So, do you know about statistics?" when they were talking about how she was a physics major and is in general a science major. He just really wanted to sounds smart and failed miserably. It certainly made for an interesting night. Anyway, I think I'm going to go read some Bringing Down the House and then go to sleep. So goodnight world!

three cheers!

Well, break is going fabulously. After a very rough last couple of weeks of school, I'm home again. There have been fires and egg nog and movies. I get to cook and sleep in as late as I want and read books on my own time schedual (Chronicles of Narnia right now). It has been great.

I went up to visit sara at cornell thursday through saturday and it was lots of fun. I got to meet her friends and get my final college partying out of the way for the year. Good times.

When I got home, I found out that I passed stat, which is totally fantastic. I still dont know if I want to take it over again to get a better grade or if I should continue on to the next quarter and perhaps get a tutor. I still havent found out my ochem or drama grades, I guess they'll come soon.

Last night I went and got real pizza with sara and ernest, which was great. The stuff they have in chicago, as good as it is, isnt pizza. adn then we sat around talking on aim and made hotchocolate and all that good stuff.

Today I went into the high school and said hi to some teachers and talked to the IB coordinator about starting IBHL math, because it seems likea really good idea. Then I went and got blood drawn for some tests and made lunch.

Today my mom's school got cancelled after she went in, so she stayed to do some grading and then we're thinking about going up to owego for shopping, a totally great place.

So that has been my break, its been busy and great and I get two more weeks of it. :)

Great night

Yesterday was a good day. I got up around 7:00 to finish my paper and handed in it around 12:30. Then I got to lounge around, went to Florian with Lauren, and just general hanging out for a few hours. That was a lot of fun. Then at 4, I got together with my drama group to run through our scene we are performing today at UT-day. It's really coming along nicely, and it's pretty funny too. Then back to my room for some family guy and a nap. Im really glad I set my alarm before I layed down to watch some cartoons because I would have slept right through the hookah trip which was the best part of the night! We trekked up to the near north side to go to this awesome hookah lounge called Sigara (or something similar to that). It was fabulous. The decorations were beautiful, they had the short tables with pillows everywhere and very little light, mostly from candles. There was awesome background music and it was really excellent. I ordered a chai latte and my group got a hookah with "Serenity Now" tobacco, which was so smooth and good, it was amazing. I was sitting with Andrew from central, Nick, Jason, and Jen, and then down a little was Emily and Josh, and then there was a bunch more people, but there were too far away for me to talk to really. The belly dancer was really good, and she was even standing around when we were getting ready to leave and I talked to her a bit, she was really sweet. Then some of us caught a taxivan to come back which worked out well, leaving the rest to stay a while longer at the lounge. We definitely want to make it a reading period tradition. It was the most relaxing trip. When we got back to the house, we watched some of Vertigo, waiting for the rest of the people to get back, but I had to go to bed because I had to wake up early. Oh man, did I mention I liked the lounge?

Today: scene practice at 9, drama class set up at 10:15, performance at 11, done by 12, lunch, then a mixture of studying and hanging out and studying some more. Sounds like a good day to me.

Last and First day

I just had my last class of the quarter, it was pretty amazing. Its also officially the first day of winter in my book. I got up at 5 this morning for reasons I wont go in to, but anyway, I had a magical walk through the quad which had the lightest coating of snow over all the grass and ice over all the pavement. I stood in the middle of the quad for a few minutes and the ice-coated branches cracked and chimed in the slight, but bitterly cold wind. I love it. I was there before the maintenence guys who spread salt, so it was still pure and beautiful, no practicality involved. I love it when I need scarves and gloves just to go to the dining hall. I love it when everything is cozy and warm when you get inside. I love drinking coffee and hot chocolate when it's cold. I love being in my bed when it's cold. I love walking when it's cold. I love when it's cold outside.

And now, I have only a paper, a performance, and two finals standing between me and break.
